The Vietnam Trade Office in India held an online seminar on April 22, 2026 to boost cooperation in the leather, footwear and textile sectors between Vietnam and India. The event brought together industry bodies, businesses and research groups from both countries to explore partnerships and value chain integration.
Vietnam’s Trade Counsellor to India Bui Trung Thuong said both countries have strong complementarities in textile and footwear value chains. He pointed out that global supply chains are shifting towards diversification, sustainability and digital transformation, creating the right time to build deeper cooperation and integrated value chains.
He added that the seminar aimed to connect enterprises, investors and organisations to drive partnerships in investment, technology and sustainable development.
Aditya Das from Invest India said India offers a strong manufacturing base and supportive policies for foreign investors. He noted Vietnam’s strength in garments and India’s advantage in raw materials, fibres and fabrics, creating scope for trade and joint ventures.
Nguyen Thi Nhai from the Vietnam Sericulture Research Centre called for deeper research collaboration, training programmes and expert exchanges, and support to join the International Sericultural Commission.
The seminar also promoted upcoming events including the 26th International Shoes and Leather Exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City from July 8 to 10, Bharat Tex 2026 from July 14 to 17 and Meet at Agra 2026.
Participants shared capabilities and explored cooperation, while the Vietnam Trade Office said it will continue supporting long term engagement.
