More than 79,000 sacrificial animal hides reached the Savar leather industrial estate in Bangladesh by 8pm on 28 May during Eid-ul-Adha, while seasonal traders complained about lower than expected prices at warehouses.
According to Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), the collection included 78,515 cow/buffalo hides and 703 goat or sheep skins.
Officials said 341 trucks transported hides & skins to the Savar estate and the inflow was continuing steadily into the night, when bulk trading usually takes place.
Despite the Eid rush, officials and workers said there was no major disorder in traffic management or hide/skin handling operations at the industrial estate.
BSCIC, along with the industries and commerce ministries, local administration and law enforcement agencies, jointly monitored raw hides and skins collection, transport and preservation activities.
