China’s bags and cases industry reported weaker export performance during the first four months of 2026, while imports recorded strong double digit growth, according to the latest data released by the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA).
From January to April 2026, China’s exports of bags and cases totaled $9.55 billion, down 4.0% compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, imports of bags and cases reached $1.98 billion during the January-April period, representing an 18.6% year-on-year increase.
The bags and cases industry remains an important segment of China’s broader leather industry, which includes footwear, leather goods, leather garments and tanning.
Overall, if you see, China’s leather industry, which includes the leather, footwear, leather garments, bags and cases sectors, recorded exports worth $25.4 billion and imports of $5.15 billion between January – April 2026, exports declined 6.5% year-on-year, while imports increased 4.3%.
